Truck
is First Arriving Unit on Branchville House Fire |
OCTOBER 28, 2007 - On Sunday
at 0615 hours Truck 812 just returned from a box in 14’s
area when the box was struck for 9610 Autoville Drive for
the house on fire. Truck 812 was the first arriving unit
and found a two story house with smoke showing. Truck 812
operated on scene for several minutes before the arrival
of the rest of the box alarm. Truck 812’s crew split
up with one crew making entry and doing the primary search
and the other crew throwing multiple ground ladders and venting
the roof. Chief 812 A arrived on the scene and was assigned
Interior and Chief 812 was assigned Side Charlie. The fire
was contained to the garage with little extension into the
house. Very extensive overhaul was done by the crews and
Company 12 cleared the scene around 0930 hours.

Engine, Truck and Ambulance on Calverton 2nd Alarm |
OCTOBER 13, 2007 - At 0756 Hours Saturday, Truck 12, A129 Chief 12A and Chief 12B were alerted to 3804 Lighthouse Way in Co. 41's First Due for a reported apartment on fire with people trapped. EMS 811 arrived shortly after and reported a working fire on the first floor of a 3-Story apartment building. Chief 31 established command and requested a Task Force Alarm which brought E121 to the fire ground. Truck 12 positioned on Side Charlie and while the interior crew assisted in the search for reported trapped occupants the exterior crew threw multiple ground ladders and the aerial ladder. E121 was assigned as part of the RIC Group. Chief 12A was assigned Division 3 and Chief 12B was assigned Division 2. A129 transported the lone occupant from the fire apartment who was located outside by the fire building by the crew of E121. The fire was extinguished with minimal extension to the second floor and the searches proved negative. The fire which escalated to a second alarm, was scaled back at 0855 Hours when E121 was released. Truck 12 and the Chiefs cleared at 0941 Hours.

First
Due Second Alarm Apartment Fire |
OCTOBER 12, 2007 – At 0025 hours
the box alarm was dispatched to 4330 Hartwick Rd. for a reported
fire in the building. This brought E121, TK12, A129 and all
three chiefs to the scene. While en route communications
advised units that they were receiving multiple calls and
now had a report of people trapped on the upper floors. E121
and TK12 arrived with nothing evident from the street as
the building was being evacuated. As units from Co. 12 were
making there way to the reported floor, TK1 arrived on the
scene with fire showing from a third floor window in the
rear. A Second alarm was quickly requested by command due
to the high occupancy of the building and the building’s
fire alarm being out of service. As E121 was hooking up to
the building’s standpipe, TK12 located the fire apartment,
forced entry and began an aggressive search of the fire apartment.
E121 followed and knocked down a room off in the rear of
the apartment. Crews from Co. 12 worked to search the rest
of the apartment and check for extension. C12B had the Hartwick
Rd. command while C12 worked at the command post and C12A
had the vent group. Command eventually held the units from
Co.12 and TK1 to assist the investigators. Units went in
service shortly after 0300 hours and there were no reported
injuries to firefighters or civilians.

Engine and Truck run fire at Greenbelt Target |
OCTOBER 9, 2007 – Shortly before 0500 Hours on Tuesday, an automatic alarm was dispatched for the Target Store in Co. 14’s 1st Due. While the units were enroute the assignment was upgraded for a report of a trash compactor on fire inside the storage warehouse portion of the building adding E121 as 3rd Due, Truck 12 as 2nd Due along with Chiefs 12A and 12B to the call. Initial units reported a large cardboard recycling compactor on fire attached to Side D of the building with heavy smoke conditions throughout the large structure. Truck 12’s crew assisted with securing utilities, performing searches and ventilation of the very heavy smoke conditions. E121’s crew assisted with ventilation and final extinguishment of the compactor after Squad 22’s crew pulled the unit away from the building. After extensive overhaul of the area and ventilation of the store units began to clear the incident at 0639 hours. Chief 12A held the Greenbelt Road Command and Chief 12B was the interior.

Engine And Truck Run Langley Park Apartment Fire |
OCTOBER 4, 2007 – Shortly before 0630 Engine 343 was alerted by a resident of the greater Langley Park area of a possible trash fire in the 2200 block of Phelps Road. As the crew from Engine 343 arrived on scene they discovered that they did not have a trash fire but they did have fire showing from the rear of a three story garden style apartment. Upon this discovering the officer of the engine requested the box which brought Engine 121 and Truck 12 along with other units from the Fourth and Sixth Battalions. Upon their arrival Truck 12 was assigned by command (Chief 12B) to handle the responsibilities of the first due truck. The crew split up performing primary searches of the fire apartment and opening up while the other crew worked outside to get ladders thrown as well as assisting with controlling utilities and ventilation. Engine 121 arrived on scene however staged and was not utilized. Shortly after the fire was knocked down command held Engine 343, Paramedic Engine 44, Truck 12, and Truck 1 and placed the remaining units in service. Units from Company 12 operated on the scene for about ninety minutes.

Engine and Truck on 34 House Fire |
SEPTEMBER 8, 2007 – On Saturday at 1936 Hours, E121 and Truck 12 were alerted as 4th Due Engine and 2nd Due Truck for a reported house on fire at 2103 Hannon St. in Co. 34’s First Due. E341 arrived shortly after and reported smoke showing from a 2-story single family dwelling. E121 secured E341’s water supply and operated in the Basement Division of the house. Truck 12 arrived and threw numerous ground ladders, performed ventilation and searched on Division 2. Chief 12A was assigned as the Division 2 Supervisor. Units cleared the fireground at 2028 Hours.

Engine and Truck Run Small Fire in the Hollywood Section |
SEPTEMBER 1, 2007 – At 1330 hours the box alarm was dispatched for the house fire at Rhode Island Ave and Iroquois St. in the Hollywood section of Co. 11’s first due. Chief 11 and E113 arrived on the scene with smoke showing from the eves of a two story single family dwelling. E121, TK12, and Chief 12A arrived on the scene and were quickly put to work. TK 12 completed searches and assisted E113 with opening up. E121 completed E113’s spilt lay and positioned a line on the second floor. C12A was assigned division 1 for entirety of the incident. The fire was contained to a bedroom on the first floor. Units operated on the scene for about an hour before being released.

Engine and Truck on Daytime House Fire |
AUGUST 20, 2007 – At 11:53 hours Engine 121 and Truck 12 were alerted for the house fire at 3415 Stanford St. in company 1’s first due. Ambulance 17 arrived minutes later with fire showing from 2 sides of a one story single family dwelling. Truck 12(volunteer staffed) arrived on the scene directly behind Truck 34 and assumed second arriving Truck duties. Truck 12 completed searches and assisted with opening up on the first floor. At the same time Truck 12’s driver completed outside vent work, threw ladders, and secured the utilities. Engine 121 secure the second due engines water supply and provided a back up line to side Charlie. Truck 12 was held for over two hours for overhaul and to assist the investigator.

Engine Runs Calverton Apartment Fire |
AUGUST 13, 2007 – Units were dispatched just after 0500hrs to 11441 Cherry Hill Rd for a reported apartment fire. E121 was dispatched as the 4th due Engine Company on the box, along with chief 12A. Units arrived on the scene with a three story apartment building with a fire that originated on the exterior of the building and extended into the basement, first and second floors units. E121 arrived and secured their own water supply in the rear of the building. E121’s crew worked to advance a hose line via a ladder to the top floor and check for extension. E121 worked to open up the top floor and cockloft along with C12A who had division 3. Units were held for just over one hour before being released.

Engine and Ambulance on Working Fire |
AUGUST 5, 2007 – At approximately 0300 hours, Second Battalion units arrived on the scene at 9410 Copernicus Drive in Company 48's first due to find the rear of a house fully involved. A129 was alerted on the working fire dispatch, and shortly thereafter, Engine 122 was alerted as the fifth engine on the box per Chief 18A's request. Arriving with six personnel, 122 was assigned to the Delta exposure at 9412 Copernicus, which had fire showing from the Bravo side. While the ambulance crew was busy evaluating bystanders, the engine crew pulled a 2 inch attack line from Engine 192, advanced it to the first floor of the exposure, opened up the interior wall with hand tools, and knocked the fire. The line was then repositioned outside the structure to cool siding and other building materials. E122 also assisted with extinguishing the original fire building. A129 transported one patient from the scene.

Engine and Truck Respond to Electrical Fire Next to Firehouse |
JULY 24, 2007 – At 0955 hours an employee from the Walter L. Blair Professional Building located next door to Station 12 notified members of a possible electrical fire in the building. Company 12 notified communications to fill the box for the above address. Engine 121 and Truck 12 arrived on scene with nothing evident, however quickly located a working fire in the first floor bathroom. The crew from the engine stretched an attack line to the fire, while Truck 12's crew laddered the building and performed a primary search of the first floor. All units cleared the fire ground at 1041 hours.

Engine and Truck on Laurel 3rd Alarm |
JULY 22, 2007 – Shortly before 0200 Hours on Sunday, units were dispatched to 14803 Bowie Road in Company 49’s 1st Due for a reported apartment on fire. Seconds later RE49 arrived with heavy smoke showing and quickly requested the Second Alarm bringing E122 as 4th Due Engine and TK12 as 3rd Due Truck. Truck 12 was first arriving unit from the Second Alarm and was immediately put to work by the command post in 14805, Exposure D. The Interior Crew of TK12 reported to the third floor where they opened up for the engine companies encountering heavy fire conditions in multiple apartments. The Exterior Crew of TK12 cut down a fence and positioned on Side Charlie of 14801, Exposure B where they laddered the building and worked on the roof of the other involved exposure. E122 was assigned to relieve TK12’s crew in Exposure D. Chief 12B was assigned Exposure D and Chief 12A was assigned Staging. Company 12 units cleared the fireground shortly before 0500 Hours.

Engine and Truck run 2 Fires in Central Heating Plant |
JULY 19, 2007 – At 1430 Hours on Thursday, E122 and Truck 12 were dispatched for an investigation at #001 Rossborough Lane, the University’s main Heating and Electrical Generating Plant. Truck 12 discovered a fire on the roof started by a malfunctioning ventilation stack and filled the box alarm. A flying standpipe was deployed using TK 12’s waterway and units worked for roughly an hour to extinguish the fire. Shortly after clearing the University’s Fire Marshal requested units back for a second fire in the same area on the roof. The Street Alarm worked to again deploy a flying standpipe from TK12. The second fire required cutting away a large section of roof material to expose all hidden fire. Tower 7 was requested for additional manpower shortly into the incident. A lowering system was eventually used to remove all of the burned materials from the roof of the 75’ structure. Units eventually cleared the fireground at 1850 Hours.

Truck 12 Runs Laurel Second Alarm |
JULY 19, 2007 – Just before 0730 units from the sixth battalion were dispatched to 203 Washington Blvd. for a report of possibly building fire. Units from Company 49 arrived on scene reporting heavy fire showing on side “A” of the building. Due to the amount of fire upon arrival, command requested the fire task force. Within minutes of the task force command requested P.S.C. to fill out the second alarm. This brought Truck 12 as the first due truck on the second alarm. Command requested Truck 12 to establish the Rapid Intervention Team on side “C” of the building and report to C11A who was the Division “C” supervisor. Once on Side “C” Truck 12’s crew was split having two members report inside and assist with extensive overhaul ad secondary searches while the balance of the crew remained outside as the R.I.T.. Truck 12 operated on the scene rotating its crew through both the R.I.T. as well as operating on the interior for just over three hours before being released by command.

Fire at Ellicott Hall |
JULY 17, 2007 – At 1641 on Tuesday, E122 and Truck 12 were alerted to Ellicott Hall for a report of smoke coming from the First Floor. E122 arrived to find nothing evident from the street but quickly located a working fire on the First Floor East Wing in an area of the building under renovation. The fire involving construction materials was knocked down by the automatic sprinkler system. The crew from E122 worked to extinguish the remaining fire while the crew from Truck 12 worked with the other special services on the box to ventilate the building, ladder the upper floors, perform searches, overhaul and control utilities. Company 12 cleared the fireground at 1853 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Engine and Truck Run Second Fire Of the Day |
JULY 15, 2007 – At 2239 Prince George’s Fire Department’s Public Safety Communications started to receive calls from the 2300 block of Calvert Street in Company 34’s first due reporting a possible house on fire. This brought Truck 12 as the second due truck and Engine 122 as the fourth due Engine. Just minutes after being dispatched PSC upgraded the call due to reports of a female possibly still trapped inside. Units from Company 34 arrived on scene at the correct address of 2304 Calvert Street with smoke showing. Truck 12 operated on the floor above the fire performing searches and assisting Engine 441 with opening up the walls. Engine 122 secured the water supply for Engine 441 and stood by. The units from Company 12 operated on the scene for just under an hour.

Engine and Truck Go to 34’s Area |
JULY 15, 2007 – After clearing an accident Engine 343 was dispatched to 7604 Quinn Springs Ct. for a report of a boat on fire in the driveway. While enroute to the Quinn Springs Ct., P.S.C. filled out the box advising that the caller advised that the house was now also on fire. This brought Engine 122 and Truck 12 as the fourth due engine and second due truck on the box. Engine 343 arrived on scene and informed the units responding that they had a boat well off with extension into the side of the house. Truck 12 arrived on scene and was assigned the task of first due truck. Truck 12 conducted the primary of the first floor and reported to the garage area to check for the extension. Engine 122 stretched a line to the floor above and checked the attic for any extension. After about an hour command started to release units, and held Engine 343, Paramedic Engine 44, and Truck 12. Truck 12 was released at 1635.

Engine and Truck on 31 House Fire |
JULY 9, 2007 – At 2052 on Monday, E122, TK12, C12A and C12B were alerted for a reported basement fire in a house at 11208 Stephen Lane in Company 31’s 1st Due. Chief 31 reported a working basement fire shortly after arrival. The crew from Truck 12 was assigned Rapid Intervention by command and also laddered all four sides of the residence. E122 secured Engine Co. 11’s water supply and stood by. Company 12 cleared the fireground at 2135.

Engine and Truck on Springhill Lake 2nd Alarm |
JULY 8, 2007 – At 2233 on Sunday, E122, TK12, C12A and C12B were alerted for smoke in the building at 9154 Springhill Court in Company 14’s 1st Due. Truck 14 arrived on scene reporting smoke showing from a three story garden apartment. Truck 12 arrived in the rear shortly after with heavy smoke conditions visible from the entire row of attached addresses prompting the dispatch of a 2nd Alarm. Companies 14 and 35 located a fire in a basement apartment while Truck 12 worked to search and ventilate the floors above the fire while laddering Side Charlie and Side Delta along with the roof. The driver of Truck 12 assisted with opening the roof of the fire building. Engine 122 established a secondary water supply and stretched the 400’ Line into Exposure B where they checked for extension and controlled utilities. C12B was assigned the Basement Division and C12A was assigned Division 2. Company 12 cleared the fireground at 2356.

Truck runs Kitchen Fire on Hanover Parkway |
JULY 6, 2007 – At around 1404 on Friday July 6th, Truck 12 was dispatched as the 2nd due Truck to 7716 Hanover Parkway for the reported kitchen fire with occupants trapped. E353 arrived shortly after dispatch to initially report nothing evident from the street. However, upon further investigation quickly noted smoke conditions in the stairwell and a kitchen fire in apartment #301. Truck 12 arrived on scene, gave a quick size-up of side Charlie and went to work. Multiple ground ladders were thrown from Tk12, Tkk14, and Tk28, while the crews from inside began to check for extension in adjoining apartments and in the attic space. After the fire had been knocked, Tk12 was assigned to be the Vent Group and worked with Division 3 to ventilate the building. Tk12 cleared the fire ground around 1453.

Busy 4th of July for the 12 House |
JULY 4, 2007 – The volunteers from College Park celebrated our nation's independence with a day full of fun and excitement. Throughout the day, the engine and truck companies ran numerous box and street alarms, while the ambulance ran a number of wrecks, including one overturned with 3 minors ejected at University Blvd near Baltimore Ave. Upon return from the firegrounds and MedStar, members gathered for an annual 4th of July barbeque in the apparatus bays. Just before nightfall, the crews headed up to the University of Maryland's Lot 1 to join the College Park community for fireworks, food and music. Truck 12 ascended a massive American flag during the national anthem and luckily enough, Company 12 was uninterrupted by calls throughout the spectacular fireworks display. The night closed rather quietly, with only a few more wrecks for the engine and ambulance.

Plane Crash at Freeway Airport |
JULY 1, 2007 – At 1848 on Sunday July 1 Foam 12 and FSU 12 were dispatched to Freeway Airport on Church Road in Company 43’s 1st Due for a reported plane crash. Units from Co. 43 and 18 arrived and confirmed a small plane crash. Foam Operations were not required and Foam 12 and FSU 12 were returned to service at 1904.

Accident on Baltimore Avenue |
JULY 1, 2007 – At 1308 on Sunday July 1 E122 and A129 were dispatched to Baltimore and Albion for a personal injury accident. E122 arrived on location and requested a Rescue Squad and Medic Unit for one trapped. The Priority 1 Trauma patient in the back seat of the car was extricated by the crew of E122 prior to the arrival of the squad and transferred to the crews of A129 and Medic 55. Medic 30 was added to the call for a second trauma patient that was already out of the vehicle. A total of 7 patients were tended to by EMS units on the scene. Chief 12A had the Baltimore Ave Command. E122 cleared at 1348 and A129 did not clear until 1605 after extensive cleaning of the unit was completed.

Accident on Baltimore Avenue |
JULY 1, 2007 – At 0448 on Sunday July 1 E122, A129 and Medic 12 were dispatched to Baltimore and Knox for an unknown incident involving the police department. Units found nothing at the original location and proceeded south on Baltimore Ave following the police activity. Shortly after PSC advised that the correct location of the incident would be Baltimore Ave and Oliver Street in Company 7’s 1st Due. The units from 12 continued on the call due to their proximity to the incident and arrived to find an accident involving an injured police officer. The officer was transported as a mechanism trauma by Medic 12. E122, A129 and Chief 12A cleared at 0528.

Engine and Truck Operate on 34 House Fire |
JUNE 29, 2007 – At 2309 on Friday June 29 Truck 12 and Chief 12A were dispatched to 2258 Lewisdale Drive in Co. 34’s 1st Due for smoke in the house. E341 arrived reporting smoke showing and a working fire in the attic. E122 was added to the call at this time. Truck 12 arrived shortly behind E341 and worked on all levels of the house performing horizontal and vertical ventilation, searches and controlling utilities. E122 operated on the 1st and 2nd floor of the house and secured Engine 113’s water supply. E122 was released at 0108 and Truck 12 cleared at 0219 after completing extensive overhaul and assisting with the investigation. Chief 12A initially held command before being reassigned as Operations Chief.

2 Small Fires in Springhill Lake |
JUNE 27, 2007 – Over the night of June 27th and 28th E122 and Truck 12 operated on two small fires on Edmonston Road in Company 14’s 1st Due. Truck 12 operated as 2nd Truck on the first fire checking for extension on the floor above while E122 staged. Truck 12 was the 1st Truck on the second box alarm and operated in the basement fire area opening up for the engine companies and performing a search of the fire area, ventilating the building and assisting with the investigation as well as controlling utilities. E122 checked for extension in Exposure B.

Truck goes to work on Lanham Second Alarm |
JUNE 13, 2007 – Just after 1400 hours as a severe thunderstorm was rolling through the greater Prince George's County area, Public Safety Communications dispatched the box for 9759 Good Luck Road for a report of a building fire. Within minutes Chief 18A arrived on the scene to find a three story garden style apartment building with fire and smoke showing. While enroute to the transfer to Company 48 Truck 12 was requested as the first due truck on the second alarm. Truck 12 and Engine 92 were initially assigned to the exposure building to perform searches and check for extension with Chief 19 as the supervisor. Once this task was completed Truck 12 was redeployed to the fire building to perform secondary searches and extensive overhaul. Truck 12 and Chief 12B operated on the scene for approximately three hours before being released by command.

Truck 12 Operates on 9 Apartment Fire |
JUNE 4, 2007 – At 1136, Truck 12 was dispatched to 5122 Kenilworth Ave, in Company 9’s first due, as the third due special service for the apartment fire with people trapped. Crews from 9 arrived shortly after to find a working on the 3rd floor on side Charlie. Crews from 9 and 7 immediately went to work to find the fire and the trapped infant. As Tk12 was arriving on scene, heavy smoke was still visible from side Charlie. Since Tk12 arrived with a crew of 8, the crew was split up, as per command, half to stand-by as the R.I.T. team with SQ13 and the other half went to roof. The crew on the roof opened up several vents to check for extension into the cockloft. With no extension found, the crew returned to side Alpha to stand-by with the rest of the crew. Tk12 was released at 1217.

Second Due Engine On 14 House |
MAY 25, 2007 – Shortly after noon units from the Fourth and Sixth Battalions were dispatched to 5701 Ruatan Street in Berwyn Heights. Engine 121 was alerted to the call as the second due engine from Company 31’s first due. Chief 11A (Bailey) arrived on scene to find a single family dwelling with smoke showing and requested and additional engine and truck due to the units being under staffed. Within minutes Engine 72, Squad 14, and Engine 121 arrived on scene. Engine 121’s crew advanced a back up line to the first floor and assisted with checking for extension while the driver of Engine 121 secured Engine 72’s water supply and threw ground ladders to side “C” of the house. Engine 121’s crew operated on the scene for about an hour before being released by command.

Unusual Service Call for Truck 12 |
MAY 19, 2007 – On Saturday at 0841 Truck 12 was alerted for a service call to assist WSSC with a water main break on the Outer Loop of 495 at Riggs Road. Upon arrival a steady flow of water was evident from the overpass from a broken 12” Water Main. WSSC lacked the equipment to access the elevated water main and required an aerial ladder to perform the repairs. Truck 12 positioned in the fast lane and extended the aerial to allow a technician from the water company to make the quick repair and reopen traffic on the Beltway.

Truck 12 and Engine 121 on 34 Apartment Fire |
MAY 16, 2007 – On Wednesday at 1933 Truck 12 and E121, along with Chief 12B were alerted for a reported apartment fire at 9300 Adelphi Road in Co. 34’s First Due. PSC advised responding units of multiple calls reporting a fire in the basement. E343 initially reported nothing evident but quickly located a working fire in a vacant basement apartment. E121 positioned on Side Charlie and stretched a line to the floor above after taking down a fence. Truck 12’s crews were split, with one performing a primary search and checking for extension on the floors above, one assisting E343 in the fire apartment, and one removing the plywood from the windows. Chief 12B was assigned Division One. The crews from Company 12 cleared the scene at 2051.

Truck on 55 House Fire |
MAY 14, 2007 – At 1545 Hours on Monday, Truck 12 was alerted as 2nd Due Truck for a reported house on fire at 3711 36th Street in Co. 55’s First Due. Engine Company 55 arrived and reported a large shed in the rear yard with possible extension to the house. Truck 12 arrived and positioned on Side Alpha to establish the RIC. With minimal extension to the house the assignment was quickly scaled back to 2 and 1 and Truck 12 returned to service at 1612 Hours.

3rd Due Engine On 34 Fire |
MAY 8, 2007 – At 1955 hours PSC dispatched the box alarm for 2009 Erie Street in company 34's first due bringing Engine 121 as third due engine. Engine 343 arrived on scene to report smoke showing and later advised of a working fire in the basement. Engine 121 arrived and advanced a 250 foot attack line to the second floor. Crews worked to search and check for extension in all apartments on both the second and third floors as well as the cockloft area.
Due to the block wall construction there was minimal extension. Engine 121 remained on scene for about an hour.

All Hands Fire on Knox Road |
APRIL 24, 2007 – At 0111 Tuesday, E121, C12 and C12A were dispatched to 4221 Knox Road for a reported apartment fire with possible people trapped in the basement. E121 arrived shortly after with heavy fire conditions in a First Floor apartment with extension to the Second Floor. The eight member crew split up, with two performing a quick primary search of the basement area while the remainder of the crew stretched an attack line. The fire was quickly knocked down and all searches were negative. Command held E121 and Truck 7 until 0413 to assist with the investigation and extensive overhaul.

Engines Respond to House Fire on Ruatan Street |
APRIL 17, 2007 – Just before 1500 hours on Monday, Company 12 was alerted to a reported house fire on the 4900 block of Ruatan Street in Company 11’s first due. Engines 121 and 122 responded with both volunteers and career staffing. Chief 11A (Bailey) and the wagon from Company 11 arrived on the scene with smoke showing. Units from College Park arrived shortly thereafter, secured Engine Co. 11’s water supply, and pulled additional hand lines. Companies 11 and 14 found a small fire on the first floor in the back room of the house. 121’s crew remained on the first floor while 122’s crew assisted Truck 34 with minor extension on the floor above. The fire was contained to the room of origin due to an aggressive and well paced interior attack.
Meanwhile on campus... Chief 12B (Kerber) had command of a small working fire in the new Biosciences wing of the Biology-Psychology Building on the University of Maryland campus. If there’s one good excuse for missing a fire, it’s being at another fire. Kudos and thanks to Companies 9 and 13 for handling that job.

Engine Company 12 runs 48 house |
APRIL 3, 2007 – Just after 0300 hours Prince Georges County PSC started to receive calls for a report of a house on fire with possible people still trapped inside. This brought Engine 122 as one of the four engines on the box. While enroute communications was receiving information from a female inside the home advising that she and her children were still trapped. Minutes later units from Companies arrived on scene simultaneously to find a 2 story split level home with smoke showing. Engine 122 laid a secondary supply line down the street to find that Engine 482 was having issues with their pump. Engine 122's pump operator was able to get around and pick up the first in engine's supply line. Engine 122's crew worked with Company 14 on the second floor to extinguish fire on the second floor and to help check for extension. E121 was added on to the call just minutes after the initial dispatch. Engine 121's crew established the rapid intervention team and assisted with exterior operations. Crews from Tower 7 and Truck 28 were able to remove an adult, a teenager, and baby from the house. Units from Company 12 operated on the scene for about two hours before being released.

9118 Edmonston Road |
MARCH 26, 2007 – Just hours after cleaning up from the fire at 9150 Edmonston Terrace, Units from the Fourth and Sixth Battalions were again dispatched to Springhill Lake Apartments for a report of smoke coming from the building. Units arrived on scene to find a three story garden style apartment with smoke showing from the third floor. E122 laid out from the same hydrant as just a few hours earlier on side charlie. Command had E122 stretch a line to the "D" exposure and check for extension. E122's crew advanced the 400 foot line to third floor and found smoke down to the floor. After opening up the walls and cielings the crew found some extension through the wall. E121's crew stretched a second line into the "D" exposure down to the basement and took care of fire that was burning in the basment level. Units from Company 12 operated for just over an hour.

MARCH 26, 2007 – Shortly after midnight units from the Fourth and Sixth battalions were dispatched to 9150 Edmonston Terrace for a report of smoke in the apartment. Shortly after having the units up PSC undated BC6 that they were recieving other calls from the same address. Truck 14 arrived on scene and reported that they had smoke showing from the third floor and after investigating found fire in of the basement that had run all the way up into the cockloft. E122 laid out while E121 secured their water supply. Engine 121 and 122 operated on the 3rd floor knocking down fire, as well as opening up the walls and cielings to expose the fire. Chief 12B had the basement division and Chief 12A had division three. Before the fire was over it had escalated to just over 3 alarms. Crews from Company 12 operated on the scene for just over four hours.

MARCH 8, 2007 – Shortly before
1500 units from the fourth battalion were dispatched to 7900
New Riggs Road for a report of an apartment on fire in the
building in Company 34's area. Engine 343 arrived on scene
to find a 2 story garden style apartment with heavy fire
showing and reports of people still trapped in the building.
Shortly after this the second alarm was sounded bringing
Engine 121 to the scene. Engine 121's driver assisted with
laying out four inch hose to Engine 11 to assist with water
supply complications. The remainder of the crew report to
command where they were put to work stretching a line into
the exposure building, checking for extension, completing
searches of the first floor, and overhaul. Units operated
on the scene for about ninety minutes.

System Knocks Small Kitchen Fire on Boteler Lane |
MARCH 7, 2007 – At 1457 on Wednesday,
the box alarm was sounded for 8000 Boteler Lane,
Building 2, in Company 11’s First Due for a reported
apartment fire, sending E121 as the 2nd Due Engine Company.
Chief 14A arrived first, established command, and advised
of a working fire on the first floor, requesting an additional
engine and truck company. E122 was alerted as part of this
working fire dispatch. E121 arrived shortly after and secured
a hydrant on Side B of the building and advanced a back-up
line to the Apartment #216 where a small fire was kept in
check by the activation of the automatic sprinkler system.
E122 arrived and established Rapid Intervention using equipment
from Truck 34’s rig. Command scaled the incident back
to Companies 11, 12 and 14 after a few minutes once searches
were complete and it was confirmed that there was no extension.
Company 12 returned to service at 1549.

T12 Responds to Apartment Fire |
FEBRUARY 21, 2007 – Shortly after midnight units from the fourth battalion were dispatched to 9302 Adelphi Road in Company 34's area for a report of an apartment fire. E343 arrived on scene minutes later advising that they had a fire in the basement of a 3 story apartment building. Upon arriving on the scene Truck 12's interior crew searched the floor above and the exterior crews from the truck secured the utilities and laddered the building. Once the fire was knocked down command assigned the truck and Chief 12B (Kerber) to ventilate the building. Truck 12, Chief 12B, and Chief 12A operated on the scene for approximately one hour.

Truck Operates on Laurel 2nd Alarm |
FEBRUARY 15, 2007 – At 0612 on Thursday, 6th Battalion units were dispatched to the Bay and Surf Restaurant on Baltimore Ave in Company 10’s first due for a reported building fire. Engine Company 10 arrived shortly after and advised of heavy fire in the rear and roof area. A 2nd Alarm was quickly requested bringing Truck 12, Chief 12A and Chief 12B to the fireground. The crews from Truck 12 split up, with the interior crews opening up for the engine companies operating throughout the structure and the exterior crew securing utilities, working with other units on the roof, and ultimately breaching an exterior wall into a cold storage unit to allow for additional access. Truck 12 was held for several hours assisting with the extensive overhaul once the fire was under control. All of the units operating performed well to overcome single digit temperatures and thanks to the Ladies Auxiliary of Laurel for providing a place of refuge in a nearby tavern to allow everyone to briefly warm up. Truck 12 ultimately cleared the fireground at 0948.

Truck Responds to Fire on Riggs Road |
FEBRUARY 13, 2007 - At 0023 hours PSC recieved a call for a report of a house on fire in the 8500 block of Riggs Road. This brought Truck 12 with 8 as first due truck on the box. Engine 343 arrived on scene to find a "butler building" to the rear of 8525 Riggs Road with fire showing. After about 10 minutes command held the box to Engines 34, 44, and Truck 12. Units remained on the scene for about 90 minutes performing overhaul.

First Due Fire Highlights Busy 36 Hours |
FEBRUARY 3, 2007 – At 1022 on Saturday February 3 the box was sounded for the Jerry’s Pizza at 8136 Baltimore Ave, directly across the street from the station, for smoke coming from the roof. E121 arrived seconds later reporting smoke showing from the roof. As crews opened up and stretched an attack line fire was now visible from the roof from the grease duct system. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the duct system with minimal extension to the remainder of the building. E121 was held for several hours for overhaul and to assist fire investigators.
Throughout the remainder of the weekend Company 12 staffed both BLS units and an Engine Company, responding to a total of 37 incidents, including several transports to the assortment of specialty centers throughout the DC/Baltimore Region. Trooper 8 was utilized to transport a spinal injury to UMD Baltimore and A128 transported to the Hand Center at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore via ground as A129 transported several trauma patients to PG Trauma and Medstar. E121 and A129 also worked with Company 1 units on an extrication at University Blvd and Adelphi Road.

First Truck on House Fire in Hyattsville |
JANUARY 16, 2007 – Just after 1600 Hours Prince George's County PSC started to recieve calls for fire in the bedroom of a house at 5904 33rd Ave in Hyattsville. Within minutes of being dispatched Engine 12 arrived on scene to find heavy fire showing from side "A". Truck 12 initally dispatched as second truck was moved up to be first truck due to Truck 55 being involved in a property damage accident. Truck 12 arrived to follow Engine 12 in through the front door to perform search, ventilation, and assist with opening up. Company 1 made quick work of the fire and command (Chief 12) held the Engines from 1 and 7 as well as the Trucks from 12 and 9. Truck 12 performed extensive overhaul and operated on the scene for about three hours.
