Passing of Chief Carl N. Cimino Jr.
It is with a heavy heart that the Officers and Members of the College Park Volunteer Fire Department share the passing of Past Chief of Department and Past Chairman of the Executive Board, Carl N. Cimino, Jr.
Carl was a fixture of the College Park Volunteer Fire Department with over 50 years of service. Carl’s accomplishments and contributions to the department in those 50 years were countless. Most notably, Carl twice served as Chief of Department, first from 1986-1987 and again from 1992-1997. After his time in an operational leadership role had ended, Carl served the department in an administrative capacity for the remaining years of his life. Carl assisted the department in many roles, including serving as Chairman of the Executive Board from 2007-2019. During his time with the CPVFD, Carl mentored and influenced hundreds if not thousands of members as they came through our doors and went onto where they are today.
In addition to his service to our Department, and certainly more important, Carl was a loving husband, father, grandfather and more. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Carl’s friends and family beyond the CPVFD.
Beyond family and firehouse life, Carl had many careers but always lead a life of service. When not at the firehouse, Carl would often receive patients brought into the hospital by College Park EMS units in his role as an ER Charge Nurse at a local hospital. In addition to his all of his full-time roles, Carl was an accomplished musician, playing keyboard and vocalist for the “Low Rent Quartet” for many years.
Details on arrangements will be posted as they become available. Rest in peace Chief.
